Okay, so you’re new to Austin and you have no idea where to start. Or maybe you’ve gotten too comfortable with your go-to spots and are looking to add some new ones into the mix.

If you’re anything like me, you spend lots of time on Google Maps trying to find the best spots for every occasion. But there’s only so much you can find without having the inside scoop.

And Austin’s charm is all in the local businesses, so if you’re thinking of hitting the major chain stores and restaurants, you’re in the wrong city! This metropolis is truly a bottomless pit of fun and eclectic local destinations.

I can’t say I’ve covered them all…but a good portion of them are listed here by neighborhood. So if you’re not sure where to start in Austin, start here!

East Austin

One of the most diverse areas in the city, East Austin is one of the youngest and most bustling spots to be…think, the Brooklyn of Austin. Lined with breweries, coffee shops, delicious restaurants, and trendy cocktail bars, this is the place you’ll accidentally spend an entire day exploring, and probably want to sign a lease in by the end of it!

A rich combination of old houses, hole-in-the-wall dive bars, and newly built highrises, this area straddles the line between historic and modern, and that compilation of cultures can be witnessed just by walking the streets and looking around.
